Mr Fowler

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a short half term. With lots to cram in, it’ll fly by and it’ll soon be Easter Holidays. Some forthcoming dates for your diary:

5th and 6th March – Parents Evening

7th March – World Book Day

22nd March – Play costumes to be handed into school (separate letter to be issued about this)

25th March – FOHS Mothers Day Wrapping Room

26th March – Years 3 & 4 Play (2pm and 6pm)

27th March – Celt trip to Groundworks, Wrexham

29th March – Last day of term

15th April – Return to school

This half-term, the children will be learning about how to write their own poetry and they will be tasked on remembering and performing a poem. Then as part of a ‘Big Write’ exercise, the children will be looking at how they can write paragraphs that include simple, compound and complex sentences.

The children will learn about measuring the length of objects and finding the perimeter of different 2D shapes. The children will then start to look at fractions and, in particular, finding units and non-unit fractions of whole numbers and learning how to find tenths of whole numbers.

Due to time constraints last half-term, this half-term, in Science, the children will learn about food groups and healthy balanced diets. They will be studying the human digestive system and how food is transported around the body, investigating skeletons and looking closely at bones, joints and muscles and comparing it with animal skeletons.

The children will be learning about coding using a programme called Scratch. This is a free programme and can be downloaded at home, if the children want to continue their learning outside of school.

This half-term the children will be learning about the Celts and this will culminate in a trip out to Groundworks on 27th March, in Wrexham, and a day full of hands on fun and learning whilst helping the resident Celts on their mission to find their lost leader and keep their Celtic village running. This will be a non-uniform day.

Due to play practice, for this half-term only, the children will have one PE lesson per week. This will take place on Thursdays where the children will take part in dance lessons inside.

Both Literacy and Numeracy homework will continue to be sent home on Fridays and returned back by Wednesday the following week. However regarding the weekly spellings, a letter is due out shortly explaining how the school is looking to implement changes in order to improve the spellings of all children.

If there are any questions, please don’t hesitate to come in and see me.
