Class 3 2023 - 2024

Miss Hartropp

Mrs Cooper

Happy New Year to you all and welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely Christmas holiday and made special memories with family and friends.

This half term in Literacy we will be looking at a new book ‘The Fossil Girl’ by Catherine Brighton. Our aim is to write a journal to describe the events of when Mary Anning found the first Ichthyasaur.

In Maths, we are continuing to work on Multiplication and Division before moving onto Length and Perimeter. It is important that the children practice their times tables regularly at home. They all have an account for Times Tables Rock Stars that they can access on a phone or tablet at home. In addition, we will be looking/listening to songs that will help the repetition of times tables in class, I have added the link to these below so that you can listen and practice.

Science will be linked with our book this half term by investigating ‘Rocks’. We will explore different types of rocks, understand in simple terms how fossils are forms and research the work of Mary Anning.

Our History this half term will be looking at the history of early humans from the ‘Stone Age’. Children will learn how early humans lived, particularly where they slept, what they ate and how equipment was made and used to help them survive. We will also be producing a Stone Age piece of Art linked to the artist ‘Cueva de las Manos’.

On Wednesday afternoons this half term the children will be taking part in Forest School. We will also link this with DT by designing, making and eating some forest pizzas. The children will need to come into school wearing their forest school clothes. Ideally something warm and waterproof. Wellies or boots can be brought in in a bag and trainers can be worn during the day before we go outside (this will stop mud being brought into school).

Our new PE day will be on Fridays. PE kits can be worn to school on this day.

We thank you for your continued support at home, listening to your child read at least 10 minutes every day,  helping them practice their times tables on Time Tables Rock Stars and homework. Homework will continue to be set on Fridays and due in the following Wednesday on Atom Prime. Spellings will also be given out on Fridays connected to the spelling rule we have learnt that week. Just a reminder there is no spelling test each week, but a spelling check at the end of each half term so it is important that spellings are practiced.
