Class 3 2018 - 2019

Mr Fowler

Dear Parents,

Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all.

This half-term, the children will be focussing on their fiction writing. As well as exploring ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’ and the “The Day I Swapped my Dad for Two Goldfish” by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, the children be learning about adverbials, how to write in the correct tense and how to write in the first person. They will also go on to write a new version of “The Diary of a Killer Cat”, by Anne Fine, using recount features and complex sentences.

For the first three weeks, the children will re-visit multiplication and division to ensure that they have a solid understanding of the short multiplication and division methods. They will then move onto looking at adding and subtracting money and ultimately how to calculate how much change they would receive from £5 and £10, if they went into a shop and bought a number of items.

In Science, the children will learn about food groups and healthy balanced diets. They will be studying the human digestive system and how food is transported around the body, investigating skeletons and looking closely at bones, joints and muscles and comparing it with animal skeletons.

This half-term, the children will be designing and making their own sandwiches. There will be some tasting of different bread and ingredients during this time. If your child has any special dietary requirements, please let me know by Friday 18th January.

The children will be studying the human and physical features of Nantwich and the surrounding area.

This half-term, PE will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, the children will receive gymnastic lessons on both the floor and the apparatus. The children will also need their trainers as we might finish the lesson with some cross country. The children have been excellent this term with their running and all of them have improved their fitness. On Thursdays, an external coach will take the children through a number of games to improve their cricket skills. The children will need trainers and warm clothes as a lot of the activities will be outdoors.

Both Literacy and Numeracy homework will continue to be sent home on Fridays and returned back by Wednesday the following week. I will also endeavour to hand out the weekly spellings on the Tuesday ready for the test on the following Monday.

Finally a big thank you to all those who gave me a gift for Christmas. The kind gestures were really appreciated.
