Class 2 2017 - 2018

Mrs Bradley

Summer half term 2

Welcome back to our very last half term together which will be very busy ( and a little hectic with our classroom move due to building works ) but lots of fun!

Below we have outlined some of the activities that we will be undertaking this half term:

Our new topic for this half-term will be based upon the story of “Paddington” by Michael Bond. This will build upon “Diversity Day” and “Den Day” which take place during the first week of term and will develop the children’s understanding of refugees. In Literacy, we will create a scrapbook from Paddington as well as write non-fiction reports, comparing and contrasting different types of bear.

In Topic lessons, we will learn about “darkest Peru,” where Paddington is from. We will reinforce our knowledge of the world and use GoogleEarth to find Peru. We will learn about key physical and human features of this country, compare the climate with our own as well as develop our mapping skills and knowledge of co-ordinates.

In Art, we will be sketching Paddington and Peruvian llamas before making collages. We will also look at Peruvian textiles, learning to weave like in traditional ponchos and tie-dye material.

In PE, we will be playing kickball on Mondays with Mrs Hughes and continuing to develop our core skills and athletics on Fridays with Mrs Bradley in preparation for Sports’ Day which takes place on Friday 13th July ( Reserve day Friday 20th July ). Please could you check that your child’s footwear fits with sports’ day in mind? The children will require trainers for both PE sessions as well as water bottles!

In Science, we will be identifying and classify plants and animals in the school grounds as well as creating food chains and thinking about how animals and plants depend upon each other. We are hoping to organise a trip to develop our fieldwork skills this half term! Details to follow!

In ICT, we will creating our own class blogs which will be available to view on our class website page as well as becoming familiar with an app called “Book Creator”.

Music will involve further lessons on our recorders. We will developing our music reading skills and learning further notes in addition to the B and A that we already know.

During Mrs Bradley’s PPA time on Wednesday afternoons, Mrs Eaton will be teaching the children RE.

The children will also receive three PHSE lessons this half term as part of the whole school Christopher Winter project that they began last year. They will develop their understanding of male and female and gender stereotypes as well as the differences between males and females, including naming body parts.

We hope this is helpful and gives you an insight into our topics this half term! Thank you very much for all your support and encouragement so far. The children have all come such a long way and we will endeavour to help make their transition into key stage 2 as smooth as possible. With this in mind, the children will spend one week on the key stage 2 playground in July and also visit Mr Fowler for a morning. It will seem strange at first but we are sure they will thoroughly enjoy year 3 and flourish! Please do not hesitate to come to see us if you have any questions. Our door is always open!
